Geometry Geology

Fascinated by the design of the formal gardens at Chatsworth Estate, Derbyshire, and contemplating Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown’s intent to control and formalize nature through the design and construction of the estate in the 1700s, Jacqueline focuses on creating geometrically composed photographs of the gardens with studies of geological slices of the rocks and sediment that lie beneath this Derbyshire landscape. The work forms a fusion of recent and ancient histories particular to this area of land, combining the visible surface with the invisible. She investigates the texture and surfaces of nature, anticipating an alternative document of the trace and evolution of this landscape. The exhibition work will comprise of a series of coalescing photographic prints focusing on geological studies combined with studies of the architecture of the space i.e. the hedges, pathways, rock formations, flower beds, greenhouses and sculptures that form the gardens.

This project began in autumn 2012 is ongoing further work will be made  as the seasons change in the parklands and gardens of the Chatsworth estate. Below are examples of the developing work.
